Okay, I am such an animal lover. My family and boyfriend know this SO well. If anyone is walking their dogs, I nudge my boyfriend and say, “Puppies!” If a plump bird lands a few feet away, I will stare at it while I walk until I am well past it or it flies away. If I am walking around in the neighborhood and see someone’s cat lounging around, I will talk to it and coax it to come and be pet by me. Haha, I really do have a problem, don’t I? :D

It all stemmed from when I was a kid and wanted a pet SO badly. “Mom, can we get a dog?” “Mom, can we have bunnies?” The answer was always, no, no, and no! My mom’s a weird lady; she’s scared of even the cutest animals. Furry warmth does not appeal to her and animal dirtiness certainly doesn’t either. On top of that, they’re a huge responsibility and hassle. I could never convince her to get some type of furry animal. As a kid I had higher hopes and would do tons of research on animals to show my mom I could take care of it. As I got older, I realized, “Dang, this lady ain’t budging.

I finally had the brilliant idea of convincing her to let me have pet birds. They are easier to care for, still adorably fluffy & cute, and my mom would never have to interact with them if she didn’t want to. Today, I have the most adorable but meanest cockatiel ever. He is SUCH a weirdo and downright vicious sometimes, but he’s too cute to hate and really does act like a dog sometimes. :p

Well, anyways, I thought my bird was vicious. Well, he is. But his beak is not much of a problem. He can crack through sunflower seeds in a split second, but his nips are nothing compared to a furry animal bite. This realization did NOT come to me until I was bitten by a cat the other day. Like I said, I go around terrorizing neighborhoods and petting cats everywhere (exaggeration, but you get what I mean). There is one cat a few houses down from mine that is soooo friendly. I call to it, and it will come to be pet. It will leap into your hand and arch its back to put more force into your petting, while purring all at the same time. SO CUTE!

Ehh…but the other day I must have pet it the wrong way – most likely brushing against its side or belly – which set it off and it bit my arm. T_T Waaaaah. I don’t blame the cat for it, but I was given a scare after that! My arm gradually got really swollen and doing research online about cat bites is NOT fun stuff. Luckily my bite just broke the surface of my skin. If you ever get a deep bite and/or puncture wounds – wash it really well and go to the doctor ASAP. You might get really infected and might lose your finger or whatever. *sweatdrop* Here’s a good reference site.

Apparently cats have a lot of bacteria in their mouths that could be really harmful to you if they get into your blood stream (which is why puncture wounds are really dangerous). I think I am allergic to cat saliva, which is why my arm got even more swollen. After a day though, it went down and all is well now. You’re supposed to keep an eye on how you feel for a few days. If you notice bad signs, that’s really not good and you gotta get your butt to the doc asap. -.-

*sighs* I might hold off on petting outdoor cats for a while until I get health insurance again to be safe. Or at least be on guard.

P.S. I still love cats and furry creatures.

I graduated from university in June and my school health insurance didn’t end until Sept. 21. Because of that, I totally took advantage of the few months I had left of health insurance. Health insurance is amazing. I really need it (well, duh). I don’t know how my dad can be okay with not having health insurance (he’s been unemployed for a year now). Youngin’s here can be on their parents’ health insurance until they turn 26, but honestly, I don’t know when my dad will ever get a good job again (he hasn’t been looking) for that to actually benefit me.  So I’m just going to have to really take care of myself and try to get my own insurance asap down the road.

I got the yearly women’s health exam, a yearly physical exam with blood test, a tetanus booster, a TB test (clearance required to work with kids), and other personal stuff. Felt like I was stuck with needles everywhere, haha. If I were to give practical advice to any underclassmen who have school health insurance – it is to really USE it for the entire duration of school! I had friends who, just like me, didn’t discover all of our benefits until it was my last year of college. I missed out on a free pair of glasses every year. Our fault, of course, but to be honest with you, I was never given a booklet that explicitly stated my benefits (like free yearly this and that). I finally looked into it when a friend told me about it and I did extensive searching online for all of the pdf documents. *smacks head* That was stupid, I’ll admit. Oh well, at least I did end up taking advantage of it after all.

The doctor said I have a really mild scoliosis, apparently. My brother has it, too. She knew my insurance was ending, but suggested  physical therapy someday, since it might be what’s affecting my breathing. I have issues breathing from time to time – it just feels like I can’t get a good breath of air. It’s usually due to anxiety though (I get anxiety pretty easy…), since she checked my lungs through x-ray and there was nothing wrong. She said ab strengthening will help put less stress on my back though, so I’ll try and do that.

Made blueberry muffins today. I love real blueberries in pastries! Artificial flavoring has nothing on real blueberries. I love how they pop open and ooze out blueberry juice into the pastry.

Yummy blueberry muffins

I found myself sitting in my OAT prep class, wiping away my tears, wondering why I was so sleepy. Then I realized, why wouldn’t I be sleepy? I’ve racked up more sleep debt than I could ever pay back, and on top of that I don’t sleep early enough to get at least eight hours of sleep.

I think there was a way to figure out how many hours of sleep will allow you to perform at your best. It was something along the lines of sleeping 6-8 hours at night and waking up at the same time every day. If you still feel tired, add another 30 minutes of sleep (by sleeping earlier) and repeat until you feel alert the next day. If you feel alert, then that’s probably the right amount of hours.

Of course, some of us will find 6 hours too little, while others find 10 hours to be too many. I’m lucky to say that I’ve experienced too much sleep before, where sleeping too much made me feel even more tired. But of course, I’ve experienced way many more sleep deprived nights than I could ever count. :p

Sleep debt can’t be paid as easily as you think. Think of all the hours of sleep you missed out on in your life (oh goodness). You would think that you might be able to pay a lot of hours back on the weekends if you don’t have any obligations, but even then you can’t sleep for 10 extra hours straight. If you did somehow, you still end up ruining your sleeping schedule, which might lead to even more sleep debt! So, really, you can only get say…3 hours extra max. That would take a really long time to pay back all of your sleep debt, and that’s if you don’t accumulate more!

Our best bet would be to prevent any future sleep deprivation, and welcome the few extra hours of sleep whenever we can (by sleeping earlier, not later). I want to take care of my body! I am a night owl, and I love staying up late, so this is a huge obstacle for me…but I really feel like I will be able to overcome it and sleep like a “normal” personal…someday.

I’m really sorry about that… there were some database issues that were seriously screwing up this site. My drafts were showing up as published posts, current blog posts were duplicated ridiculous amounts, and eventually the entire site was just broken. It really freaked me out, and those who know me well know that I CANNOT handle stress very well, lol. Since my posts were being duplicated a million times, I hope anybody subscribed didn’t get notifications for all of those. Really sorry about that. T_T

I went to the doctor today to check out that weird sickness I’ve been having. The doctor doesn’t know what it is, but says it’s a really strange virus. She says a lot of people have been coming in with the same thing for the last two weeks. Eek. I guess it’s going around. It’s really easy to spread because there are no real symptoms when you’re the most contagious. I just had a fever for three days, and then rashes all over afterwards. It was all over my face and spread downwards on my body. I hated it. It was extremely itchy when it came in, but after the rash showed up on my skin, it wouldn’t itch anymore. My face looked like I had a ton of acne everywhere.

I also got a blood test. I’m missing a few vaccinations for some reason and the only way to find out is through a blood test to see if I’m immune or not. To be honest with you, I’ve been really scared of doing blood work. But it really isn’t that bad at all, at least compared to what my mind has been hyping it up to be! My friend tells me shots hurt much more. lol. Is that true??? So I guess depending on how my immunity tests turn out, I’ll have to get some shots and I’ll get back to you on the pain. :p

Today was really hot (for our standards anyway :p )…but for the past three days I’ve had a fever. T_T The worst part about having a fever in the summer is how much more amplified the heat is! Ironically, it wasn’t even that hot until after I started getting a fever. :/

It was really strange…First my head hurt, and oddly enough if I moved my head too quickly or looked from the corners of my eyes, I would feel pain. Later that day I broke out into a fever, and it’s been going on ever since Saturday. I’ve never had a fever with no other usual symptoms before. I tried Googling what was up with that, and it gave me a million possibilities, including cancer and other scary things. lol. Oh, the Internet. Scariness and hilarity all in one place. Reminds me of this meme.

Nothing is gone completely, but everything has decreased – the headache, fever, and pain. My head still hurts, and I’ve been so tired so I’ve mostly been in bed. -_- The rule of thumb is usually 3 days of fever before you really need to go to the doctor, so I think I’m okay now. It’s just bizarre that I really didn’t get sniffles or coughs or sore throats or anything that usually accompanies a fever. Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll be even better. Argh, now I’m even more behind with the OAT studying. *curls up into a ball*

EDITED TO ADD: So it’s the end of day 4 and I’ve made the speculation that I probably have measles, rubella, or roseola. All of which are distinctive for the 3 day fever with mild to no symptoms afterwards, except for the RASH. And whadya know? Not too long ago, I had found out that one of my childhood vaccines (MMR vaccine) is missing from my records – meaning I never got it for some reason (I guess my mom forgot to take me back for a second dose?), so I recently was planning to get the vaccine at my health center. But ha, luck wasn’t on my side this time because I think the virus got me first. Woooow, what was the chance of that, right? 17 years have passed since I should have gotten the second dose of the vaccine and right when I realize I should go get it, the virus gets me. lol. So now I’m itchy and full of rashes that make me look like a teenager again with tons of pimples. T_T Going to the doc on Fri, but if I’m right about it being one of the previously mentioned viruses, there’s nothing you can do but wait it out.
